WW2 Air to Ground Review – Typhoon vs Lightning vs Corsair?
Ok guys, opinions on WW2 aircraft. You have to fly air missions of land in World War 2. You can choose one of these aircraft – Hawker Typhoon, Vought F4U Corsair and P-47 Thunderbolt Republic. Do not worry about the range, are all short-range missions. What to choose? What was the most effective A2G aircraft (and not by the numbers built) – Face to face, which you think is better? Arguably. Both P47 and F4U were used after the war (but not necessarily in the USAF) The very young ROCAF (People's Republic of China, ie Taiwan) fought the Chinese Communist MiGs on P47s and P51s before the transition to F-86 USAF Saberjets. See some of the first ROCAF lost (at the bottom) and see P51s and F47 is (same as P47s) http://www.taiwanairpower.org/history/shootdowns.html me the U.S. F4U hold because it could be used both on land and in the chassis, while the P47 was based on land only. However, research also shows F-4U, even in its original version, can carry 4,000 pounds of payload. Whereas the P47 is limited to about 3700 due to the design of the pylon. (1600 each wing, plus 500 belly, but no bombs pounds 1600) The latest versions of F4U, -4 and -5, can do almost 5200 pounds of payload. P47 seems to have less capacity load, but more especially weapons. P47N version, such as carrying guns M3 has a better rate of fire than the M2 by the F-4U is. M3 is up to 500 rds and P47N has eight of them, compared with 6 F-4U M2. Therefore, it depends on whether you're after bombs or firearms.
