God's Love Letter
The Bible is many things to many people. For all who worship him as the Word of the living God is perfect, flawless and timely as today as when it was written by selected human sacred vessels and directed by its author. If you spend enough time inside their decks, the Bible promotes a personal relationship between he and the reader gets deeper and more intimate every day.
Many years ago, as a boy stationed aboard an aircraft carrier deployed attack abroad, my thoughts often turned toward home. One of the highlights of the day was when he got the mail plane. Every sailor knew the hum of the engines low two individuals who supported the aircraft. It seemed that stand out above the noise of all other modern jet aircraft taking off and trapping in the flight deck.
When the plane arrived in the mail, whenever possible, work came to an impasse around the ship as the sailors waiting for the mail to be sorted and delivered to different departments. What seemed an eternity the time and small groups of sailors gathered around designated distribution areas. The long wait ended with the mail clerk for the Department of climbing the nearest table or chair and announce the names in each envelope and package.
These were the most difficult moments of the entire deployment seven months, waiting to see if he had received news of his home, in particular, that one special in your life. A shipmate with joy shouting "here sir" when his name was called, while another solemnly hang your head, as it became clear that there was no letter for him that day.
On one occasion I remember my name being called out and the secretary of humor "Sniffing" the letter and raising his eyebrows several times before the crew before handing it to me. Their antics and laughter of the crew did not bother me. He knew his actions that the letter was from my wife and I found myself crying uncontrollably and I can only describe as a battle cry "of happiness.
The letter had an immediate positive impact on my morale. A moment before the inside had been mortified at the prospect of not receiving a letter. A moment later, I suddenly saw in happiness when I heard my name called. Working my way to the front of the crowd quickly took my letter and confirmed that it was my girlfriend.
Not had time to read the letter yet, as there were planes in the air, so I quickly got into his pocket and ran to my job. I would like have time to read it later. In my first opportunity opened the letter and looked up quickly by the words "my love" above the signature, a habit Most sailors develop as a result of the high instance of "Dear John" letters received by the extended deployments.
Once verified that love bloomed yet, I went to the first page and read the letter as soon as possible to absorb all the sweet things that my eyes are focused on. Running again the flight line, I put the letter away until I could digest more of it in my next break or during lunch.
Night came and made sure the private part of flight. I got the letter from my pocket and read it again slowly and seriously, imagining my wife sitting and writing the words meant just for me. After meditating on everything he said, then I read it again and again and finally, one last time before I went to sleep at night. The words stuck with me recorded and carried me to bed … "I love you, I know you have a job to do, and I will be waiting for you to come home." How important and wonderful that those words were for me.
Since I consider that I enjoy the closeness with God through faithful, daily reading of His word, it strikes me that the Bible is much like the love letters my wife sent me. It is a love letter from God to his children and an encouragement to us while we are away from home. For believers, the Lord is essentially saying "I love you. I know you have a job to do, and I will be waiting for you to come home."
Believers should be as intimate with the Lord, that I can hardly wait to open the letter of love that every one, read the words he has for us. We eagerly should read over and over and over time to make sure his infinite love and wonderful to us and strengthen us when we are away from it. The Bible will have a new meaning for the Christian who sees it as a love letter and not only a must-read book.
