The legacy of the Saab
The latest marketing campaign Saab cars traces the automaker's origins back to the days when the company was formed by a Swedish aircraft maker. One ad mentions that 16 aircraft engineers designed the first cars, which were based largely on the aerodynamic aircraft design. Apparently, the "born jets" slogan is intended to inform the public that the same quality that goes into building aircraft is in the construction of their cars. What is not mentioned is that the company built its first automobiles in 1949 is now part of General Motors, the largest automaker the world. Saab jet division is separate, still owned by the Swedes. Are the ads misleading? Perhaps, or perhaps Saab is trying to distance himself from General Motors and standing on its four wheels. Let's look then and now Saab Saab.
After observing several ads about Saab, I decided to take out a small company research. What I learned is a fascinating story of how a small Nordic country was not only one but two lines of high quality car. The other company is, of course, Volvo. This is simply unbelievable that even today the field numbers along with more nine million citizens truly Swedish engineering is as advanced as any country on the face of the earth.
Saab, itself, began in 1937 just before the outbreak of the Second World War when reconnaissance aircraft were built for the Swedish Air Force. After the war, the aircraft manufacturer pace with emerging industry and military aircraft developed sophisticated aircraft including fighter jets that also became part of the NATO fleet. By side of the house airlines, high-performance Saab regional aircraft found a market in the U.S. and around the world.
In 1949, the first Saab 92 left the assembly line, beginning a long history of producing high-quality and exclusively designed cars. In fact, the original Saab design incorporates a streamlined to reduce wind resistance, resulting in better fuel economy for drivers. This concept was subsequently all subsequent cars Saab, so far not too many vehicles on the road can match the decade of the 92 or cars Saab today low coefficient of drag.
Beyond the economic production of cars, Saab – like Volvo – began producing cars were really safe and innovative. Ultimately, the decision was made in 1990 by splitting the car unit of the parent company and a independent body that was quickly bought by investors as General Motors who secured 50% of the business.
Today, Saab has expanded its line include your first SUV and all models of cars have been regular and well needed updates. Critics are concerned about GM's growing influence – in fact, the 9-7X SUV based largely out of the GM technology – and if the company really can keep some semblance of independence. Some fear that the division will go the way of Saturn and be fully integrated into the GM fold, while others wonder if the division can provide enough of a distinction to strong European brands like Volvo, BMW and Mercedes to attract new customers.
For what it's worth, Saab born from jets estate may be the strong reminder needed to maintain its distinct and viable. Hopefully that the slogan is more than a marketing ploy.
