Aircraft fuel consumption per person?
I would like to know the efficiency per person per passenger. An A321 could use 24,000 pounds of fuel to go across country. At 8 pounds per gallon than 3000 liters. With 150 passengers is roughly 150 miles per gallon per passenger. I would like figures for all aircraft (pounds burned by a certain number of miles flown). Thanks, JD
His numbers are a little bit. A321 runs like 8000 gallons to cross the U.S.. Jet A is 0.8075 density, or about 6.74 lbs / gal. The result is about 56 seat-miles per gallon. Its probably about 15% higher than this at a cruising speed efficient. small piston-powered aircraft typically do about half in this Avgas. Bizjets are much worse than this. Here's a link to give some comparisons rough. Using the established range vs. fuel capacity is a very approximate; fuel used on the floor, during the promotion, etc. In addition, reserve requirements which are not generally used in traffic. The wind also makes a difference. Manual of the aircraft have a fuel consumption of letters based on weight, temperature, altitude and speed. Compiling the actual fuel consumption numbers is difficult. Many manuals are available online if you look hard enough, be aware it is necessary to estimate the weight and know the number of passenger seats – most have numerous configurations. Another possible approach is to collect airline reported seat-mile and comparison of fuel burned. While this fleet-wide average, the difference between aircraft numbers probably very close, with modern and larger computers that have a advantage.
