Yesterday I saw a jet plane on the STL airport just hanging in the air w / o moving. How is this possible?
At first I thought I was a blimp hanging in the sky. But when I passed I could see clearly that it was a jet. Everyone in the car I saw. Nobody could explain what they were seeing. All we are mentally healthy.
What did not you suspect it might have seemed the same. When I was a student I work at an airport and from time to time I noticed an optical illusion giving the effect you describe. (The illusions were more likely if you were driving around.) Often you would call co-workers To see the illusions. Most interaction arose because of parallax and the difficulty of judging the speed at a distance (at least according skies made it even more difficult). Is at least possible that a small plane itself that the wind could not stop forward progress at full speed. However, still move around due to gusts wind. Not a good situation (an understatement) and landing with only forward is really safe. However, if the wind is not as fast as the plane after landing against the wind makes landing easier. A commercial and / or business jet lands in more than 100 mph unless you drove through a hurricane, the wind could not hold the jet. EDIT: The vertical and have planes landing (VTOL), the marsh jumpjet can actually float. But almost never hover or take off vertically in practice (other than demos at shows / sample) because it uses a hell of a lot of fuel. Jumpjets normally take, and the earth, much like a track normal level (you can use a little push up to allow slower speeds shorter landing and therefore tracks as they do in some British aircraft carrier). And besides it does show that could not be seen around the civilian airport.
