Has anyone put floats on a plane?
I have my number seaplane last month. I enjoyed the score. I started up a business flight local instruction. I will supply and tail wheel floatplane / seaplane training. It will require a great deal of organization and planning financial. My first issue is to find the plane. Questions about the financing, insurance, maintenance, and location later. For the argument, say I can buy a Cessna 172 or Cessna 150. I can put floats on it without a Supplemental Type Certificate? Would it be cheaper to find a plane equipped with floats all Ready? If you have put on floats how much would it cost to make the whole thing. I hope someone can help me answer my questions. 1) Being part of the Seaplane Pilots Association 2) Buy a plane that is already equipped with fasteners of float, either from the factory or conversion, or already on floats. The conversion of an aircraft does not have a factory of "floating" kit installed is expensive. Some floating plants are approved by original type certificate, while some are approved by an STC. Depends on the aircraft. 3) Kenmore Air Service Call or another company that is well known in the community and ask seaplane a rough estimate on the cost of exchanging the wheels of carriages and vice versa if you do it regularly. I have not paid to have it done in almost 10 years so I do not know what the going rate is now days. 4) The cost of float / tail wheel sure is probably going to the plant, especially since you are a low-time seaplane pilot with tail wheel. Look into it before you start making any offers in aircraft. 5) Before jumping, make darned sure you also have a place in row that can dock / beach / wilderness or the ramp of the plane and find someone to do maintenance. 6) get some teaching experience in the fleet of aircraft and tail wheel for another person before making the leap to entrepreneurship.
