Is testing an instrument flight simulator is nothing like flying a real plane? The answer is an absolute and unequivocal unresounding "yes!" The lines between the realism of the flying experience a flight simulator and experience of flying a real plane are blurred as the development of simulation software has improved dramatically, by leaps and bounds over the years.

Modern computer software engineering technology has evolved to become so sophisticated so advanced, so much so that if you fly on instrument flight simulator on your PC and then you go and fly the aircraft simulator real-world counterpart, hardly will be able to discern the differences in aircraft control and performance. In fact, the only real difference between the principal using a flight simulator by instruments on your PC and fly the real deal are:

  • In a simulator, you will experience the effects of turbulence, wind shear, or the G-forces. Obviously, if banking, climbing or descending, his chair does not move.
  • A simulator aircraft engines are not at all as loud as those of a real plane!
  • If you crash your plane in a simulator, it will not die!

Apart from these three differences, all the other facets of the experience of the simulator are identical. Even the virtual "world" in the simulator is true to life. Airports and major attractions are programmed into the simulator. The distances covered in the simulator world reflects the real life. If it takes six hours to fly a single engine Piper or Cessna aircraft in Chicago to Newark real world world, which will take six hours for the same flight in instrument flight simulator.
